Robustel Expands RED Cybersecurity Compliance Across Core Router Portfolio

RED-Certified Across Our Core Portfolio

Independent Validation. Industrial Strength

Robustel has secured RED (Radio Equipment Directive) cybersecurity certification across nine core product families, covering a total of 49 individual router SKUs. Certified by SGS—one of the world’s most trusted independent testing authorities—this milestone reinforces our commitment to secure, reliable industrial connectivity aligned with the European Union’s most stringent regulatory standards.

With the August 2025 enforcement of enhanced cybersecurity requirements under RED Directive 2014/53/EU approaching, this certification provides clear assurance to enterprise buyers, OEM partners, and telecom operators: Robustel devices are future-ready, compliant, and engineered to protect data and networks across diverse deployment environments.

What is the EU RED Directive and Why It Matters

The Radio Equipment Directive (RED), officially known as Directive 2014/53/EU, governs the placement of radio equipment—including routers, modems, and IoT gateways—on the European market. While RED has long focused on radio performance and health/safety compliance, a critical expansion of the directive introduces new cybersecurity and privacy provisions under Articles 3.3 (d), (e), and (f). These provisions will be mandatory from August 2025.

The updated directive aims to ensure:

  • Network-connected devices do not harm network functionality.
  • Devices incorporate safeguards for personal data and user privacy.
  • Unauthorized access via radio interface is prevented.

RED compliance ensures interoperability, trust, and safety in the growing web of connected infrastructure. For companies operating in regulated sectors like utilities, transportation, smart cities, and manufacturing, RED compliance will soon become a non-negotiable requirement for EU market access.

Nine Certified Models: A Deep Commitment to Security

Robustel’s RED certification, verified by SGS, spans a broad lineup of industrial-grade cellular routers and IoT gateways. While the official SGS announcement highlights the R1520 Global variant, Robustel has secured certification for eight additional series, encompassing 49 individual SKUs as part of its broader compliance roadmap.

These include devices tailored for edge computing, Maritime, 5G connectivity, and remote industrial IoT applications.

Certified models include:

  • R1510
  • R1511
  • R1520
  • R1520 Global
  • R2010
  • R2011
  • EG5120
  • EG5200
  • MG460 Gateway

These certifications confirm Robustel’s engineering alignment with the cybersecurity expectations outlined in the RED directive.

Global Validation from SGS

Robustel’s certification was achieved in collaboration with SGS, one of the world’s most trusted inspection, verification, testing, and certification companies. With a presence in over 140 countries, SGS’s endorsement carries weight in both regulatory and enterprise procurement circles.

As noted in SGS’s official statement:

“SGS is proud to award Robustel RED cybersecurity certification for the R1520 Global. This certification confirms compliance with Articles 3.3 d and e, of the RED directive.”

Why RED Compliance Is About More Than Regulation

While many manufacturers are racing to meet the RED directive’s new cybersecurity clauses ahead of the August 2025 enforcement deadline, Robustel sees this not as a finish line—but a foundation. Cybersecurity isn’t a checkbox; it’s a pillar of long-term trust, especially in mission-critical industrial, telecom, and OEM environments.

RED Articles 3.3(d) and 3.3(e), now mandatory under Directive 2014/53/EU, are anchored by two critical harmonised standards: EN 18031-1 and EN 18031-2.

  • EN 18031-1 outlines general cybersecurity requirements for all radio-connected equipment. It addresses the secure configuration, storage, and transmission of data to prevent unauthorised access or manipulation.

  • EN 18031-2 builds on this by specifying detailed protections for internet-connected devices. It focuses on threat mitigation related to software updates, interface access, and the resilience of network communications.

Together, these standards define the new benchmark for secure-by-design hardware and firmware in Europe.

By certifying 49 SKUs across its portfolio to meet these standards, Robustel sends a clear signal: we are proactive, transparent, and future-focused. For our customers, this translates into:

  • Faster procurement: Certification eliminates the need for additional supplier due diligence in regulated industries.

  • Operational peace of mind: RED-compliant devices align with internal security protocols and data handling policies.

  • Regulatory assurance: Deployments within the EU—and beyond—are safeguarded against upcoming compliance risks.

Cybersecurity isn’t an add-on. It’s embedded in our products, validated by SGS, and ready for a connected future where resilience is non-negotiable.

Built for Global Scale. Certified for Local Confidence.

With millions of devices deployed across 100+ countries, Robustel supports critical infrastructure across telecommunications, energy, logistics, manufacturing, maritime, smart cities and much much more. Our global footprint is grounded in a simple truth: it’s not enough to build devices that work—they must also be permitted to operate, and trusted to protect the data they touch.

That’s why compliance isn’t an afterthought at Robustel—it’s a core design principle. From hardware to firmware to cloud, our products are engineered with regulatory alignment in mind, across diverse legislative frameworks and fast-changing cybersecurity expectations.

We partner with leading global testing bodies like SGS to validate that our routers meet the latest standards—not just in performance and connectivity, but in cybersecurity, safety, and regional regulatory compliance. Rather than relying on self-declaration, we invest in formal third-party testing to ensure our devices are deployable in highly regulated industries and markets.

This RED certification is a clear example of that commitment. It affirms that Robustel products meet the European Union’s latest standards, including EN 18031-1 and EN 18031-2, giving our customers confidence that their deployments are compliant by default—not by exception.

Robustel’s philosophy is simple: build technology that’s not only technically excellent, but globally trusted. We help enterprises scale securely—not just across borders, but across regulatory regimes.

Ready for What’s Next

With RED certification now covering 49 SKUs across our core router portfolio, Robustel is fully equipped to support global procurement and deployment—especially in compliance-sensitive sectors like smart grid, rail, automotive, and defense. Certified models are available for immediate integration, with SGS-issued documentation ready to streamline tendering and vendor approval processes.

This milestone reinforces our commitment to building not just technically excellent devices, but ones that meet the highest regulatory standards worldwide. Whether you’re evaluating hardware, navigating EU compliance changes, or seeking local deployment support, we’re here to help.
